Founded in 2021, Everyday Dose has a fascinating and relatable background. Jack, the founder, took Adderall for 20 years, but had to quit due to health concerns. Coffee sounded good, but it caused jitters, crashes, and gut problems. Stress and stimulants even caused hair loss. Jack sought a solution, and found it in mushroom coffee. Everyday Dose has even added many other healthy ingredients to improve the coffee quality.
Jack’s story resonates with me, someone who struggles with focusing without a daily cup of joe, yet gets sleepy and jittery if the caffeine isn’t carefully dosed. The heartburn and acid reflux that come with regular caffeine also sucks, because it means I can’t nap right after drinking coffee or energy drinks.
I was curious about mushroom coffee and its supposed health benefits going in.
Everyday Dose has:
Lion’s Mane: A fluffy white mushroom that supports mental clarity and long-term brain health.
Chaga: Supports gut health, digestion, and immune system.
I’ve actually had lion’s mane soup before, and it’s pretty good. For a mushroom, it has a faint, almost sweet taste. In the Everyday Dose coffee, I noticed a subtle sweetness that I liked. I typically order coffee with a shot of caramel or brew it with a vanilla creamer. The Everyday Dose Coffee+ is easy to drink–the mushroom taste is not overpowering at all.
A typical cup of joe has around 100 mg of caffeine. That’s enough to give you a fast energy boost, but many people also get caffeine jitters (me included). The first time I drank coffee when I was a teenager, I thought I was sick with how fast my heart raced afterwards! Many people experience the dreaded caffeine crash, but still rely on coffee to get a daily energy boost.
Everyday Dose’s mushroom coffee has less caffeine. It’s good ol’ Arabica coffee beans with around 45 mg caffeine in a cup. In my humble opinion, that is not enough caffeine in regular coffee. It is akin to ordering a tall Starbucks cold brew and drinking around half of it. An extra short-tall latte.
However, the lesser caffeine dosage didn’t seem to hurt the energy boosting properties of the beverage. I am happy with the energy boost of Everyday Dose, likely supported by the L-Theanine, caffeine, and other ingredients within their Coffee+.
L-Theanine is an amino acid found in black and green tea, as well as mushrooms (!). It’s been studied for its ability to ease anxiety and improve sleep. Since a surprising number of people experience anxiety symptoms or insomnia after drinking coffee, L-Theanine makes sense to add into mushroom coffee. Everyday Dose’s mushroom coffee is infused with L-Theanine for sleep and calmness support.
If you have a skincare routine, you might know what collagen is. You can’t find it in regular coffee or low-quality mushroom coffee. Collagen is important for skin hydration, hair, nails, and joints. A lot of people take collagen supplements or skincare products with collagen.
However, looking at Everyday Dose’s detailed ingredient supplement facts, I was honestly confused. It’s a little like looking at a vitamin supplement’s ingredient list–my eyes start unfocusing. For those more familiar with or interested in peptides and food science, you can visit the Everyday Dose website for a detailed breakdown of all the ingredients, from carbohydrates to amino acids.
I have eczema that comes and goes, flaky just like my skin. I didn’t notice Everyday Dose worsening or causing any skin symptoms. I also didn’t notice any major skin improvements, so collagen coffee isn’t a miracle cure for skin problems. Seems like it doesn’t hurt, though, so it is likely passively helping over the months.
Context: I am a picky eater. I am not adventurous. After I find one tasty thing on the menu, I order it twenty times in a row. So I was quite cautious when my team messaged me about trying out mushroom coffee. Doesn’t it notoriously taste like dirt and, well, have a similar mouthfeel?
Everyday Dose Coffee+ tastes like normal coffee unless you sip it like it’s a wine tasting party. Plus, you can add creamer, healthy sweeteners, milk, or ice. Iced mushroom coffee is a refreshing energy boost during summer–I still drink mine iced thanks to my handy ice tray. Yes, even though it’s almost December. Sweet iced mushroom coffee just hits different.
Also, one of the features of Everyday Dose is that there is no sediment and it’s supposed to taste good like regular coffee. The power is smooth and the coffee is smoother. There’s a rechargeable frother in the Everyday Dose box so if you have trouble mixing coffee for whatever reason, the frother makes it much easier.
I drank the Everyday Dose Coffee+ for the past four months. Not every day, though I read online that many people do choose to drink mushroom coffee every day. I had it roughly five out of seven days. So what is the difference?
With regular coffee: The main issue I have is that I need coffee, but it can make me feel sick if I drink too much in a day. It gives me increased heartbeat awareness and anxiety–and even heart palpitations if I need to chug three coffees to pull an all-nighter. Coffee is a life saver for serious deadlines, and a meaningful energy boost if you need to socialize in the morning. There’s a reason people say “don’t talk to me before my coffee”. Every day I work, I feel foggy and easily distracted unless I have my morning coffee ritual. But coffee makes me weirdly sleepy in the afternoon, so then there’s a lull where I do nothing, and then require more jitter-inducing coffee if I still have work to finish in the evening.
Everyday Dose Coffee+: The energy boost is less noticeable when I first drink it, but it’s smoother in the afternoons. I noticed fewer coffee jitters if I need to drink two a day. I can easily pin this down to the 45 mg caffeine in Everyday Dose’s Coffee+, which is much less than the 115 mg cups of coffee I used to drink. I was worried this wouldn’t be energizing enough, but I didn’t notice a problem after a few weeks of drinking it every work day. Two cups isn’t a problem.
Gut health: Standard coffee doesn’t make me feel bloated unless I add a lot of creamer, but it does make me need to use the washroom frequently. Everyday Dose Coffee+ did not give me any digestive problems. I am fortunate enough to have good gut health normally, so your mileage may vary. I did notice less heartburn, though I still adhere to my multi-year “no lying down within 3 hours of drinking coffee” rule to minimize GERD symptoms.
Basically, three hours after standard coffee, I feel alert, focused, yet calmer than usual. The calm turns to sleepiness after that. If I drink another cup, I end up jittery and anxious. It definitely hurts my sleep if I drink coffee after 5 pm.
Mushroom coffee still gives me that alertness boost but it doesn’t make me crash as hard in the afternoon. If I need to drink coffee after 5 pm, I can still fall asleep at night without replaying all my stressors in my mind.
At the end of the day, everyone has their own reactions to different foods and beverages. For example, I get migraines when I eat Alfredo pasta, but my husband loves it. I enjoy an occasional black coffee, but he feels sick just from the aroma. After online research and talking with fellow mushroom coffee drinkers, I learned that while many people with IBS and other digestive problems find mushroom coffee a safer alternative, some individuals also reacted worse to mushroom coffee than regular coffee.
The Everyday Dose Coffee+ costs $65. If you are able to snag it during a sale, like the current Black Friday sale, you can get it for as low as **$25**.
Personally, I think the number one downside to Everyday Dose is the price. Regular coffee, you can get a pack for as cheap as $10 a month. But if you want quality mushroom coffee that isn’t a powdered coffee mix, you need to pay more for something like Everyday Dose’s Coffee+. That’s more than double the price of a bag of regular coffee. If you don’t want to spend a lot on coffee every month, the Coffee+ subscription box might not be for you.
I love unboxing new subscriptions and gifts. The Everyday Dose Coffee+ has an aesthetic sheen that shimmers beautifully. The incandescent packaging reminds me of space and it’s one of my favorite coffee packaging choices.
Inside the Everyday Dose’s starter kit you can also find:
If you subscribe for more than a month, you can also get member perks and benefits. Everyday Dose has given out stylized glass cups, tumblers, free matcha samples, and travel pack coffees. These cute additions make them fun to receive in the mail every month. It’s always fun to open your Everyday Dose mushroom coffee subscription box, especially on dreary rainy days.
On Everyday Dose’s website, they have a 5-star rating with over 90,000 reviews. Customers tend to love how palatable and healthy Everyday Dose’s mushroom coffee is, with the founder’s coffee journey resonating with tons of people.
A lot of the positive reviews talk about how they love the guilt-free, tasty, smooth energy boost of Everyday Dose. The potential health benefits are noticeable after a few months of drinking it instead of regular coffee.
Downside is that some people believe the Everyday Dose Coffee+ subscription is too expensive. Many health boosting and supportive supplements are expensive. Have you bought probiotics or vitamins recently? Expensive.
To summarize, most people actually love the Coffee+ taste. Everyday Dose also has a delicious matcha flavor you can try if you tend to prefer green tea over coffee but want to try the health benefits of mushroom coffee.
Here are the pros and cons of Everyday Dose Mushroom Coffee.
Pros:
Cons:
Mushroom coffee tastes great. I never thought I’d be saying it, but Everyday Dose Coffee+ is genuinely delicious with a negligible mushroom taste (unless you already hate coffee on a good day). It makes you feel less painfully reliant on your caffeine coffee boost than regular coffee. Less jitters, less energy crashes, less heartburn. Yes energy boost. All of those make for a great coffee alternative.
If you’re not sure about Everyday Dose or mushroom coffee, you’re in the same boat as a lot of people. We recommend trying Everyday Dose with a 45 day money-back guarantee, especially if you struggle with digestive or other health problems and can’t drink regular coffee daily.
